The Sugar Industry Labour Welfare Fund (SILWF)
The Sugar Industry Labour Welfare Fund (SILWF)

The Vocational Training scheme of SILWF provides a monthly financial assistance of Rs 500/- to each trainee who has been awarded a scholarship.

The fund makes provision for 50 scholarships to be awarded each year under the Vocational Training scheme

Eligibility

 The scholarship is awarded for Vocational Training run by MITD for children of sugar industry and dock workers.
 The scholarship is awarded to trainees who are unemployed, irrespective of their age.
 The level of training for which a scholarship is awarded are : NC3, NC4, Diploma and HND

National Solidarity Fund
Scholarship offered by the National Solidarity Fund (NSF) will include the payment of course fees, examination and other auxiliary fees

Eligibility

 Candidates should satisfy the minimum requirements for admission onto the relevant course at MITD
 The monthly household income of the applicant should not exceed Rs 21,000/-
 In addition to candidates satisfying (a) and (b) above, priority of consideration will be given to orphans and wards of destitutes

Manufacturing Sector Workers Welfare Fund
Financial Aids

1. School Materials Loan Scheme

Purpose
To cater for school expenses like purchase of books, uniforms, etc.

Eligibility
Applicant should have paid contributions for at least 6 months

Loan Amount
A maximum of Rs 3,000

Admin Fee
3%

Loan Repayment
12 months

Conditions:

• The secondary institution should certify that the ward is a student at the said institution.

2. Educational Loan Scheme

Purpose
To enable any employee of the manufacturing sector or his/her spouse or children to acquire new skills and knowledge for employment purposes.

Eligibility
Applicant should have paid contributions for at least 6 months

Loan Amount
A maximum of Rs 5,000

Admin Fee
3%

Loan Repayment
12 months

Application
Application may be made at any time after payment of contribution for at least 6 months

Conditions:

• Course should be MQA approved.
• Duration of course is up to 12 months.

Scholarship Scheme

3. Technical and Vocational Courses

Scholarship Scheme

Candidates who have been admitted to follow Technical and Vocational Courses approved by the Mauritius Qualifications Authority (MQA) and the duration of which should be either a period of one year or a maximum of two years.

Priority is given to the best qualified candidates.

Eligibility:
Applicant should have paid contributions for at least 2 years.

Benefits:
Yearly stipend of Rs 4,500

Application:
Applications are invited in August with a specific closing date and scholarships are granted in November / December.

Conditions:

 No scholarship holder of the Manufacturing Sector Workers Welfare Fund can concurrently hold another scholarship. Applicants should inform the Fund if their wards have applied for any other scholarship and in the event of selection, the candidate will have to opt for only one scholarship.
 Scholarship is cancelled in case of failure/ repetition of any Class.
 Photocopies of letter of admission to Technical/Vocational Institution and receipt of payment are to be submitted at time of application and the originals are to be submitted at time of cheque collection.

Employees Welfare Fund (EWF)
Educational Loan

Financing of expenses include fees payable to MITD, cost of transport, and cost for books and stationery.

Eligibility

The loan facility is meant for:

 employees of both public and private enterprises;
 employees in respect of whom a contribution has been made to the Employees Welfare Fund/ the National Savings Fund and their children (unmarried);
 employees who are not beneficiary of a full scholarship or grant;
 a duration of study of at least one academic year.

Application

Applications for loan should be made on forms available at EWF at least at mid-term of the course after the commencement of the relevant academic year. In case of applications made after that period, loan approved will be restricted up to the amount not yet paid to the institution and documentary evidence should be produced to show the amount payable.

Ministry of Social Security, National Solidarity, Senior Citizen Welfare and Reform Institutions
Financial Aid

Social aid is provided to children who are following courses in MITD Training Centre. The social aid includes payment of examination fees.

Eligibility

 Chidren who are under the age of 20, and whose parents draw either Social Aid or Basic Pensions, notably widow’s and Invalidity pension
 The annual household income of the applicant should not exceed Rs 100,000/-

Fishermen Welfare Fund
Fishermen Welfare Fund grants different categories of scholarship to the wards of registered fishermen. A total of 12 vocational scholarships are being offered annually.

• Mauritian Artisanal Fishermen 4
• Mauritian Bank Fishermen 2
• Rodriguans Fishermen 6

The period of scholarship is at par with the duration of courses.
